Piano Keys

Piano keys are the white and black pieces on a piano.  Older pianos may still have keys made of ivory, but using ivory for piano keys went out of style in the 1950s.  Ivory comes from the tusks of elephants, and elephants became a protected species during the 1950s, keeping inhumanely obtained ivory out of the markets.

Today piano keys are made out of plastic or of a substance called ivorene.  These materials are humane, sustainable, and just as beautiful as vintage ivory keys.  Additionally, piano keys made of these materials will keep their beauty for many years if you keep them clean.
